Air For the Dutchess

Composed by Conni Ellisor
Length: 5:00
Instrumentation: String Orchestra
Ensemble: String Orchestra

Notes from the composer:

I was interested to learn that the first settlers of Duchess County were primarily Dutch, followed swiftly by Germans, Irish, Italians and English: a true European melting pot. I thought it would be interesting to write an Air, a typical instrumental dance of the time. Though often based on folk songs, mine is designed to sound like a folk song, and hopefully, as the melody is passed around the sections, one can imagine the ladies and gentlemen engaging in a proper Renaissance dance.

Commissioned by the Stringendo Orchestra School of the Hudson Valley, Prelude Orchestra, in 2015.
